·Cuba was not allowed to join or make treaties with any country which may threaten Cuban independence

·US has the right to intervene to protect Cuban independence

·Cuba must maintain sanitation to keep down the spread of disease

·Cuba must lease land to the US for naval bases (Guantanamo Bay)
